The Pan African Land Hearings on 15 August in Johannesburg brought together communities, parliamentarians, civil society organisations research institutions and policy makers from Sub-Saharan Africa to hear testimonies from farming communities and institutions that have so far been marginalised in policy formulation and African responses to the Large Scale Land Investments.
The Hearings were one response to the need for spaces to bring together the various stakeholders in land investment to engage in policy dialogue. Dialogue is needed to work out a mechanism in which the three main stakeholders — the state, communities and investors — would equitably benefit from investment in Africa’s resources.
